    Hello Honeybees,

There is always someone in every friendship who is the one that everyone goes to for advice. The one that always seems to have it together. The one that is always happy. The one that always has a word of encouragement when you are feeling down.

    The STRONG one.

    We all know that person.

    You might be that person

There is nothing wrong with being that person

Where would we be without that person?

But I ask the question………. Where does this person go for encouragement? Who do they turn to when they are down? Who helps to lift their spirits?

Here’s a transparent moment.. at the beginning of November 2017, I had a week where I was just not myself. It was hard for me to find anything to smile about and mean it. I smiled but it was not genuine. I was feeling very overwhelmed by life. I didn’t reach out to anyone to talk about it. I felt like I had to deal with it on my own. I didn’t feel like anyone wanted to listen and I also felt a little guilty about feeling the way that I was feeling. My life is truly blessed & I am grateful for it. There are people praying for this kind of life. It’s not lavish by any means but I know that it could be a whole lot worse. I gave myself a week to get it together and if I was still feeling the same way I was going to reach out to someone. We must recognize when we need help and not be afraid to ask for it. By the end of the week I was feeling like my old self. The pity party was over.

I’m sharing this because NO ONE around me knew what I was going through.  No one knew how I was feeling. We never know what people are going through. We never know what burdens they carry. We sometimes forget that even the strong need help.

I encourage you to reach out to your friends and check on them, especially the strong ones. They might not open up on the first call or text but for them to know that someone is thinking about them and that someone cares can be the lift that they need.

  • What’s Cooking?

    Hello Honeybees,

Taking a cooking class is something that I have always wanted to do and last month I got the chance to do just that. Ageless Living!

Church Health offers a FREE six-week community cooking class. They offer both beginning and intermediate classes as well as a family cooking class. You have to take the beginner class before you can sign up for the intermediate class. You must also be over the age of 13.  The family cooking class is for adults and kids 7-15.  Again these classes are FREE but you have to sign up and commit to attending at least 75% of the classes. I was ready to cook food that was both nutritious and delicious.

    Now for what I learned…..

First, I was the youngest person in my class. Shout out to the Ageless Living crew!! There were some real “seasoned” cooks among us. There were those that never measured anything and those that measured everything. The only time I measure ingredients, outside of baking, is if it’s the first time that I am trying the recipe. After that it’s a pinch of this and smidge of that. Watching the seasoned cooks try to follow a recipe was kind of interesting.

Second, I started taking better care of my kitchen utensils. I never knew that you shouldn’t put knives in the dishwasher. I was also able to learn how to properly cut ingredients and which tool works best.

Third, cooking food with good nutritional value doesn’t mean that it’s not tasty. Yes, the greens without meat were actually tasty. We started every class by watching a video about healthy foods & good substitutes. Learning to read and understand nutritional numbers was very eye opening. Things that you think are good can really be bad for you. But of course it’s all things in moderation.

Each station cooked a different dish and in the end we got to sample everything. One of the best things about the class was getting to know the other students and watching them try new dishes.

I highly recommend this free class. They have both day & evening sessions available.

I am ready to sign up for the intermediate class One more item checked off my bucket list.

  • Ageless Living

    Hello Honeybees,

What does the phrase Ageless Living mean to you?

What picture pops into your head? Is it a person, place or thing?

My definition of ageless living is living the best life that you can no matter how many candles are on the cake.

When people learn my age they always say that I don’t look 50, soon to be 51. When I was younger it bothered me but now I totally embrace it. Today I am quick to say, Thank You for the compliment. I am thankful to God & my parents for the good DNA. I’m also glad that in my younger days I took care of my body. I have been living my ageless life all along and didn’t know it.

I changed the name of the blog & added the new tagline to shine a light on the idea of ageless living. I want everyone to live life with the mindset that no matter how old you are you can still enjoy life. I want to be one of the numerous examples of what ageless living looks like.

I want to introduce you to people who are living life to the fullest. I want you to meet people who are finding their purpose in their 40’s or 50’s & beyond. I want you to see women and men who are truly embracing life & leaving nothing on the table. They are all in and you should be too. Don’t ever stop living because of a number on a calendar. You are here for a reason & a purpose, why not enjoy it?  Live life to your fullest potential.

Thank you for taking this journey with me. I am enjoying it & I hope that you are too.

If you know someone that is an example of ageless living please let me know so that I can get them on the blog to share their story.
