  • Designing Queens

    Hello Honeybees,

Art by Design is a fundraiser for ArtsMemphis that helps support local arts by bringing local interior designers together to create “vignettes”.

This year one of my favorite local designers Carmeon Hamilton of Nubi Interiors was one of the 17 participating designers. To say that her vignette “A Seat At The Table” was AMAZING is an understatement. It spoke to her being the first African American designer to participate.

Y’all this is not wallpaper, it is hand painted by Frances Berry. This small piece of art work is by Alexis Miche’

The Yeezus piece by Nate Renner was such an unexpected piece but it was a perfect fit.

Art piece by Anthony Lee. All furniture can be found at Stash Home and can be purchased.

There was also a  live watercolor illustration demonstration with Kris Keys. Kris is a fashion illustrator and print designer.

I can’t talk about the Art by Design event without mentioning Andrea Fenise. Andrea not only served on the steering committee but you could see her design influence at every vignette. Her walking tour “Turn Your Room into a Wardrobe” combined fashion & design. She also moderated the panel Design Is One. This was a discussion about the collaboration between architecture, fashion and interior design.

  • Denim & The Dixon

    Hello Honeybees,

This is the last look for our Spring Trends series. I had such a good time working with my fellow bloggers this month.

For our final look is haute denim and as nod to Spring our shoot was at the Dixon Garden & Gallery. There are so many pretty places in the garden to help you capture the perfect picture. Just like each flower bloomed in the garden we also bloomed in our denim.

The grounds are simply beautiful. Most of the flowers were in full bloom. The beautiful colors definitely signaled Spring. The day was overcast which is perfect for a photo shoot and strolling the grounds. A quick suggestion, if you are coming to walk the gardens wear comfortable shoes. If you are looking for a pretty space to shoot pictures the Dixon Gallery & Gardens is perfect. We saw a beautiful wedding party, an engagement shoot and a family photo session. See, perfect!

The Dixon Gallery & Gardens is a small piece of heaven in the center of our wonderful city. I didn’t get a chance to visit the galley but I will and soon. The creative in me is dying to go back. I encourage you to plan a visit & soon.

I’m standing in the Memphis Garden Club Cutting Garden. To see more of the gardens and our denim looks visit Bianca at Curvaceouslybee, Ashley at Big World Huge Style, Chasity at Sweat In Mascara, Sherill at Sherill SMILEs, Desire at Mocha Divas , Faith at Faithfully Yours, and Almetria at Fit and Finally Free.

  • S.O. What! I Love Me

    Hello Honeybees,

Thursday night I had the chance to celebrate me. I attended the 3rd annual S.O.What! Foundation Love Yourself Event and let me just say it was a much needed experience.

Founder and President Summer Owens started the Love Yourself Event in her home & it has now grown to the point that she needs an event space. This years event was held at The Center At Windchase. The S.O.What Foundation helps to show youth how to say “SO WHAT!” to every challenge that they may face. The foundation also helps young & old overcome obstacles and eliminate excuses hindering individual & family success. This begins by loving yourself.

At the Love Yourself Event guest received complimentary services to remind you to take care of you. I received THE. BEST. massage EVER from On Point Mobile Massage Therapy. When I tell you this man has blessed hands…believe me he does. I also received a facial and purchased some much needed Pampered Chef items. I didn’t get the manicure or the eyebrow arching services, but that’s my loss.

Guest were treated to a taco bar by Chef Chis Beavers, it was delicious. The sounds of Will Davenport, who was simply amazing and a makeup demonstration by MUA extraordinaire Tasha Anders. As impressive as that was the highlight for me was the message by Pastor Ricky Floyd. Now we didn’t have church, because you know there was alcohol being served, but the word was shared. The message was “What does love mean?” here are the high points: Stop comparing, complaining and competing and instead compliment the good in others, consider others and help complete others….That’s LOVE.

I am SO proud of Summer and the work that she does, not just for youth but for anyone that needs to move past excuses. Thank you Summer for reminding me to take the time to LOVE ME.
