  • The Strong One

    Hello Honeybees,

There is always someone in every friendship who is the one that everyone goes to for advice. The one that always seems to have it together. The one that is always happy. The one that always has a word of encouragement when you are feeling down.

    The STRONG one.

    We all know that person.

    You might be that person

There is nothing wrong with being that person

Where would we be without that person?

But I ask the question………. Where does this person go for encouragement? Who do they turn to when they are down? Who helps to lift their spirits?

Here’s a transparent moment.. at the beginning of November 2017, I had a week where I was just not myself. It was hard for me to find anything to smile about and mean it. I smiled but it was not genuine. I was feeling very overwhelmed by life. I didn’t reach out to anyone to talk about it. I felt like I had to deal with it on my own. I didn’t feel like anyone wanted to listen and I also felt a little guilty about feeling the way that I was feeling. My life is truly blessed & I am grateful for it. There are people praying for this kind of life. It’s not lavish by any means but I know that it could be a whole lot worse. I gave myself a week to get it together and if I was still feeling the same way I was going to reach out to someone. We must recognize when we need help and not be afraid to ask for it. By the end of the week I was feeling like my old self. The pity party was over.

I’m sharing this because NO ONE around me knew what I was going through.  No one knew how I was feeling. We never know what people are going through. We never know what burdens they carry. We sometimes forget that even the strong need help.

I encourage you to reach out to your friends and check on them, especially the strong ones. They might not open up on the first call or text but for them to know that someone is thinking about them and that someone cares can be the lift that they need.

  • Finding Your Passion at 50

    Hello Honeybees,

I can NOT be the only one.

I can NOT be the only person who is still trying to define their purpose at 50.

I can NOT be the only person who is not totally satisfied with where they are in either their career, romantic life or financial life.

Could I be the only one?

Am I traveling this road alone?

When did you figure out your path? Who helped you find your way? How did you know what was your passion? Your purpose? Are they the same thing? I sometimes feel like I am behind the preverbal eight ball. I sometimes wish that I could go back & start again.  You know that ole hindsight is 20/20 thing.

I have always loved words. I’ve always loved writing. I’ve always loved books. My goal is to figure out how to turn that love into a business. How do I use this love? How does this passion lead me to profit? I feel like I have been on the brink of success but I’ve never been able to get over the edge.

Well, thankfully I have finally found my passion & my purpose and I am running full steam ahead in them. I’m not gonna sugar coat this & lie like I have everything figured out because I am a looonng way from that. But what I have figured out is that I have everything that I need to pursue both of them.

I know my purpose & I work at it every day. But the execution of my passion is different from the execution of my purpose. Though they both align with one another, the way that they play out in my life is different and I am ok with that.

What’s your passion and purpose? Are they the same?

  • Fitness First

    Hello Honeybees,

At the start of the new year a lot of people make the resolution to start a diet, lose weight and join the gym. I didn’t make that resolution but I did start a fast and I did start to watch what I eat and I started to exercise. In part because my blood pressure that use to always trend on the low side was now trending on the high side.  Seeing these numbers was the motivation that I needed to make my health a priority. I’ve got way too much life left to live. I’ve got children that still need me, future daughters in law to get to know and future grandchildren to spoil.

There is a history of high blood pressure and stroke in my family so playing around is not an option. I have a membership to the Y that’s in my building so I have no excuse. In November we started a Biggest Looser Challenge at work and money is always a motivator. I probably won’t win but I am so proud of myself that I have continued to stick to my no meat meal plan and at least 3 days of exercise a week maybe more.

My goal is to lose 10 more pounds, maintain my no meat lifestyle and lower my blood pressure without medicine. I know it won’t be easy but fighting for what you want never is.

By the way, I don’t always smile when I’m working out. I’m too busy trying to work up a real sweat.
