I Hope You Dance

Hello Honeybees,

When I was a little girl I wanted to be a ballerina, didn’t every little girl? I did take ballet, jazz and gymnastics. Even in college I took dance as my P.E. requirement. Do kids still have to do that?

I knew that I would never be a ballerina but in my heart I still have a love for dance, especially ballet.

A lesson that I have learned in these 50 years, just because you had a childhood dream that didn’t come true doesn’t mean that you give up on it. That dream can still have a place in your life. I’ll never be Misty Copeland but I follow her career. I love The Alvin Ailey Dance Theater & try to see them as often as I can. I still have a pair of ballet shoes from my younger days. I have a picture of Judith Jamison hanging in my hall and I have my prized Ailey Barbie doll.

Some childhood dreams do come true, some don’t. As adults we should keep some of that childhood wonder. As adults we have the ability, effort and means to realize our dreams. I encourage you to never stop fighting for your dreams. It may get hard but if we combine that child like wonder with adult effort our dreams can come true.

I’ll never stop dancing and you shouldn’t either.
